Our Curricular approach is underpinned by the Curriculum for Excellence, Realising the Ambition and Stirlings Play and Leanring Framework.
Children are supported to learn at their own pace in informed and age and stage appropaite ways.
Indiviudalsed learning focuses around Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing whilst room and setting wide learning ensures breath and depth of curriculum.
Our play pedagogy is firmly founded on the idea that children and practitioners learn together through play. A balance of child and adult led planning ensures that children learn what they need to learn but can do this in their own way. Acrewood children captain their own learning and are fully supported to do so by responsive practitioners.
GIRFEC approaches make sure children get the right help at the right time to ensure all children are kept safe, healthy and have the best possible outcomes.
Children who need it get the early interventions they require to help them learn and succeed in a timely manner.
Universally the SHANNARRI indicators are embeded within our day-to-day to help all children understand and promote their own wellbeing.
Please see our Playroom - Community section for insights into how we use our community for learning.
In addition to this we have links with local organisations and sponsor groups who in turn help to add depth and skill focused opportunities for our learners.
This book and the subsequent characters are embedded within our provision to support children of all levels communicate and understand their feelings.
This has become a very large part of our approach and the go-to for all feelings related work.
Our children can understand, discuss and use these to regulate, deal with conflict and make their voice heard.
The characters and related colours find themselves spread across our play spaces and support deep and meaningful well being and relationship focused learning.
We offer family packs for use at home to allow shared practice and deepen understanding.
All nursery aged children have an e-journal that documents their individual progress and development.
Each playroom including our OSC have an e-floorbook that documents planning and leanring across the entire playroom.
E-documentation has helped us to increase parent engegament significantly over the last year and continues to provide new opprotuntieis for fmaileis toenagge in their childs leanring.
This also allows us to easily track curricular progress and outcomes over time and forward plan for both individual children as well as the playrooms from a more informed perepsctive.
Meeting Learner Needs meetings are carried out at least 3 times per academic year to track chidlrens progress, ensure they are being supported effectively and identify and potential current or future support needs.
At this time families have this information shared in full with them and have formal opportunities to speak with their childs key worker, input in their child learning and update care planning or support planning paperwork.
We view family engagement in childrens time with us very highly and seek to always strengthen the ties between home and nursery.
This helps children to feel safe and secure and ultimately promotes better outcomes for all.
We are always looking for and finding new ways to engage families whether through simple information sharing or family events.
We have hosted a number of Christmas and Summer Fayres as well as family camp fires and stay and play sessions.
